We Are New Hope
NHA’s Upper School includes the 8th grade, with high school faculty teaching the 8th grade core classes. This transition year, where students are held to similar expectations as the high school students, provides the opportunity to understand and learn to challenge themselves to meet the rigors of a college preparatory high school program, before it starts counting for high school credit. Eighth graders have a semester of Advisory Class where they begin an e-portfolio for tracking college choices, academic achievements, community service hours, and building a resume, which they will use in future college applications.
COLLEGE FAIR!
NACAC NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR
NHA provides a variety of options for individual paths to graduation. High school students want, and need to feel empowered to begin to make significant life choices and to take on adult responsibilities. The following graduation options provide them with excellent opportunities to do so, while still allowing for parental input in the context of a strong, supportive, educational environment.
College Prep/Career Ready
Students may elect to take all of their high school requirements within New Hope Academy. This option allows for students, who qualify, to take Honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Honors Junior Year Curriculum
Provides high achieving students with a 3.25 minimum CGPA to take some college classes outside of school hours or online.
Accelerated Junior Year Graduation
High-achieving students, maintaining a minimum 3.25 CGPA, who meet all MSDE and NHA graduation requirements may complete high school by the end of junior year. Students who graduate early will need an additional English class to meet MD state graduation requirements. Some of these courses may be college level. With this option, students may also elect to spend their final year studying abroad, if all graduation requirements can be met.
Honors Graduation
Students take some, or all of their courses, during their senior year at a local community college or a four-year university, and also receive concurrent high school credit. Students gain experience and confidence to handle the academic rigors of college courses and schedules while still under the guidance and daily support of their parents, and high school teachers. By taking college level courses while still concurrently enrolled in high school, students do not need to pass an Advanced Placement test to earn college credits.
High Honors Graduation
Students meet all the Honors Graduation requirements; in addition maintain a minimum 3.25 in all college and high school classes; and earn a minimum of 12 college credits prior to graduation.
Internships and Work
Students are encouraged to pursue internships both outside and within NHA. They may be related to an area of the student’s career interest. New Hope students have interned in many fields such as: education, technology, government, photography, law, culinary arts, and business. Seniors with sufficient credits for graduation also may elect to complete classes in the mornings and work a job in the afternoons to gain work experience or earn money towards continuing their education.
